Shelbyville-Bedford County Public Library will host its annual Friends of the Library Author’s Luncheon noon Tuesday, Oct. 12, at Blue Ribbon Circle on the Celebration grounds.

Tickets are $15 each and can be obtained at the library, located at 220 South Jefferson Street.

Guest author this year will be June Hall McCash. A native of Newberry, S.C., she completed an academic career before becoming quite a prolific writer.

She has authored 14 books, including five novels, eight nonfiction works and a book of poetry. Hall was the Georgia Author of the Year award winner in 2011 for her first novel “Almost Eden” and in 2013 for her novel, “Plum Orchard.”

McCash spent most of her academic career at Middle Tennessee State University in Murfreesboro, where she received awards for teaching, research and career achievements. In addition to her books, she has appeared in four documentaries about Jekyll Island, Ga., where many of her books are based.

The author continues to write and publish books, adding to her list just this past year.

Monica Lewis, Friends of SBCPL chair, said recently that the goal is to help the local library in any way possible in its effort to serve the community. “We assist with book sales, candy for Trunk or Treat and equipment the library may need. You can support SBCPL by joining the Friends of the Library.

Current Friends’ Council members in addition to Lewis are Mary Cathryn Perry, treasurer; Sara Wood, secretary; Charmagne Farrar, Catherine Hayes, Jennifer Henderson, Janolyn King, Jessica Osborne, Miriam Pietkiewicz, Linda Rucker, Teresa Sampson, Irby Simpkins, Jennifer Jordan Thompson and Rheaetta Wilson.

Applications to become a member of Friends of the Library can be picked up at the library. There are various costs for membership. Donations are also accepted.
