As driver pumps gas, thief snatches backpack from vehicle

A backpack was stolen from an SUV while the owner was pumping gas between 8-9 p.m. Monday at Speedway, Madison Street, according to Shelbyville police.

It was the latest of several recent incidents at the store involving items taken from customers’ unlocked vehicles at the gas pumps or people believed to be homeless pestering passersby for money, Last weekend police were told a man was outside the store propositioning women.

Other items reported to area law enforcement:

•Three chain saws were stolen from Cassady’s Lawn and Tree Works, Lower Halls Mill Road, overnight Sunday, the Bedford County Sheriff’s Office was told.

•Two wooden wagon wheels were taken from a yard on Charlie Russell Road around June 21, a deputy was told Monday.

•A lawn mower was reported stolen from a Old Pencil Mill Road home last week. A suspect allegedly said he had been given permission to take the mower.

•A man spending Monday night at his girlfriend’s Dover Street home told police her husband stole his truck and house keys and drove away.

*A man wearing an N95 face mask walked out of the Circle K on Madison Street at Wartrace Pike without paying for a can of beer shortly before 6 a.m. Tuesday, police were told.

He left in a gray Acura headed toward Wartrace, a clerk said.

The following were charged since Tuesday by the Shelbyville Police Department, Bedford County Sheriff’s Office, Tennessee Highway Patrol or 17th Judicial District Drug Task Force. They are only charged; guilt or innocence will be determined by the courts.

•Jose Cruz Gonzalez Barrera, 57, Cherry Street; domestic assault; held, $5,000 bond

•Willie Henry Batts Jr., 61, Murfreesboro; driving on revoked license (third offense), speeding (50/30), financial responsibility; held, $2,000 bond

•John David Burk III, 34, Horseshoe Drive; violation of probation, failure to appear; held, $1,500 bond

•Jamie Ricardo Caratachea, 28, Lewisburg; failure to appear (two counts), two bench warrants; held, $5,000 bond

•Michael Dewayne Claxton, 48, Bell Buckle-Wartrace Road; aggravated domestic assault; held, $3,500 bond

•Christie Elaine Davis, 55, La Vergne; violation of probation; held, $2,500 bond

•Shannon Marie Fischer, 43, Elizabeth Street; driving on suspended license; summons issued

•Everaldo Lopez Godinez, 20, Comanche Place; no driver’s license, criminal impersonation, registration law; held, $3,000 bond

•Brandon Jameson Kephart, 29, homeless, Shelbyville; violation of probation, failure to appear; held, $2,500 bond

•Jacob William Kilpatrick, 31, Tullahoma; failure to appear, violation of probation; held, $2,500 bond

•Walter Donald Lloyd, 46, White Road; failure to appear; held, $2,500 bond

•David Earl Lovell, 36, Enden Avenue; held for Williamson County

•Christopher Michael Moore, 33, Fairfield Pike; theft of merchandise over $1,000; held, $5,000 bond

•Daniela M. Moreno Rodriguez, 28, Gregory Mill Road; no driver’s license; summons issued

•Jaleesa Kiara Perkins, 21, Valley Road; shoplifting; summons issued

•Jessica Marie Pruett, 32, Ray Street; failure to appear, three bench warrants; released, $2,500 bond

•Dustil Roland Hall Robinson, 28, Gregory Hill Road; no driver’s license; summons issued

•Betsy Rodriguez, 26, Neeley Avenue; violation of order of protection, domestic assault (two counts); held, $20,000 bond

•Benito Miranda Silva, 49, Murfreesboro; driving on suspended license, violation of registration law; released, no bond

•Triston Cole Thibault, 24, Hockory Drive; speeding, violation of probation, driving on revoked license, show cause hearing; held, $3,000 bond

•Amanda Darlene Vassar, 32, Oakdale Street; failure to appear; released on recognizance

•Shawn Michael Ward, 43, Tullahoma; violation of order of protection; held, $10,000 bond
