Local beekeepers are seeking support for bringing the documentary "The Pollinators" to Tullahoma and other cities for a one-night screening on Nov. 6.
The documentary follows migratory beekeepers and their truckloads of honey bees as they pollinate the flowers that become fruits, nuts and vegetables. The filmmakers talk to farmers, scientists, chefs and academics along the way to give a broad perspective about the threats to honey bees, what it means to our food security and how we can improve it.
Supporters are using the website Demand.Film to promote the screenings. A film will only be screened if the minimum number of tickets, usually 50, have been sold in advance. Ticket-buyers are not charged until that threshold is reached. Tickets must be ordered online by Oct. 28 in order to schedule a screening in Tullahoma.
Nine cities have already had the documentary scheduled: Chattanooga, Cleveland, Cookeville, Greeneville, Knoxville, Hendersonville, Mt. Juliet, Nashville and Spring Hill. Boosters hope to add screenings in Bristol, Clarksville, Crossville, Dickson, Dyersburg, Jackson, Johnson City, Kingsport, Maryville, McMinnville, Memphis, Morristown, Murfreesboro, Paris and Tullahoma.
