KINGSTON SPRINGS — A slow start to Friday night’s non-district matchup at Harpeth ultimately proved costly for Community as the Vikings fell, 54-39.
Offense was a struggle early on, as Community netted just five points in the first quarter.
Community shot the ball better from the perimeter in the second, with Landon Lovvorn and Corey Paterick both connecting on a trey, but the Vikings still trailed the Indians, 23-14 at the half.
The back-breaker came in the third period when Harpeth added 22 points, including three treys from the game’s leading scorer, Zach Russell.
Community’s Cole Crockett attempted to match the offensive output and tacked on six points, but the hosts still managed out out-score the Vikings by 10 points in the quarter.
While Community rallied on a 13-9 run in the fourth, the earlier lop-sided third proved too much for Community to overcome.
Jacob Flannagan led the Vikings with 10 points, while Crockett added nine.
Community is back in action on Thursday in the Tullahoma Classic, facing the Tennessee Heat at 2 p.m.
