A Shelbyville man was shot and killed in an incident at Davis Estates Apartments, Davis Lane, late Friday night.
Rafael Mendoza, 43, a resident of the apartment complex, died of multiple gunshot wounds inflicted around 10:30 p.m. Detective Sgt. Sam Jacobs of the Shelbyville Police Department said Saturday. The wounds were to the “body and head,” Jacobs said.
Witnesses told police two men fled on foot after the shots were fired. One appeared to be a white male with a handkerchief over his face, Jacobs said. The witnesses were unable to get a better description due to darkness.
Police called to an initial report of one man fleeing the scene found Mendoza in a foyer at the apartments. The wounds were inflicted by a handgun, according to Jacobs.
No suspect has been identified as of Saturday night, Jacobs said. The detective said the investigation is in its early stages.
Anyone with further information is asked to call Jacobs at 931-684-5811.
