CHAPEL HILL — Monday morning’s District 9-A/AA golf match at Henry Horton saw the winners loaded with Cascade flare.
Two-time defending state champion Evan Woosley-Reed shot a 35 to claim medalist honors and win the district individual title as the only Champion golfer, while the Lady Champions carded a 91 and won the team title.
Despite an early morning start, the match was halted for approximately two hours when torrential rains blanketed the course, making play impossible.
While originally scheduled to be an 18-hole match, it was decided during the delay the match would be played through nine holes only, due to the course conditions.
Woosley-Reed’s 35 bested second-place finisher, Jack Harper of Giles County, by three strokes.
As at team, the Community Vikings turned in a combined 243 and were led by Logan Miller, who qualified for the upcoming Region 5-A match as an individual.
Miller shot a 49 to lead the Vikings, while Braxton Thompson and Stratton Lovvorn carded a 55 and 64, respectively. Cason Neill shot a 75 to conclude varsity scoring for the Purple and Gold.
On the girls side, it was another solid outing by the Lady Champions, led by Tatyana Greene.
Greene earned individual medalist honors by shooting the match-low 44.
Teammate Anna Clanton finished third overall and carded a 47, to help lead the Lady Champs to the final score of 91.
Cascade’s 91 beat second-place Cornersville by by 12 strokes.
Community also saw Haley Mitchell qualify for the region match next week as an individual.
She led the Viqueens with a 63.
Breanna Miller shot an 80 and the Viqueens finished the day with a 143.
The Region 5-A match will be held once again at Henry Horton on Monday morning.
