FRANKLIN — Bedford County was well-represented by six wrestlers during the TSSAA state wrestling tournaments last week.
Four Cascade Champions qualified for the Class A state tournament, while Shelbyville Central saw sophomore Logan McBee and junior Tapanga Thoman reach the Class AA and state girls tournament.
Vayden Moore wrestled for Cascade in the 126-pound division in the Class A state tournament.
He fell to Noah Shriner via major decision (15-0) in teh first round, but rebounded for a 5-2 decision over Sullivan East’s Donavan Smith Peters.
Moore’s run in the state tournament came to an end in the second round of the consolation bracket with a 5-2 loss to Martin Luther King’s Gregory Gomez.
Hayden Dowell gave Cascade its best run in the tournament at the 182-pound weight class.
He battled, but fell to David Crockett’s Alex Ingle in the first round, but rebounded by pinning Sycamore’s Nathan Thorbjornsen at the 2:50 mark.
He won his second match in the consolation bracket, beating Page’s Ethan Ward in a 2-1 hard-fought decision, before seeing his tournament come to a close in the third round when Green HIll’s Nathan Downey won a 5-3 decision.
For Cole West and Dylan Warren, it was a tough outing in the state tournament.
West was pinned by Brainerd’s Xavier Wood at the :38 mark and despite giving Munford’s Tyler Hanner a fight in the first round of the consolation bracket, fell in a 5-2 decision.
Warren also had a tough showing in the state with a pair of tough draws.
He dropped his first match to Lance Williams of Alcoa via pin and followed with a second loss in the consolation round to Evan Dixon of Sycamore.
In the Class AA tournament, McBee got a tough pair of opponents off the bat and fell in a 10-2 decision to Wilson Central’s Noah Todd.
McBee rallied in the consolation bracket and fought Dobyns Bennett’s Garrett Crowder, but came up short in a 3-1 decision.
Thoman had a pair of tough matches as well, falling to Northwest’s Brett Spink at the 1:51 mark and Mt. Juliet’s Julia Jirka at the :44 mark of her second match of the tournament.
