The fifth annual A Celebration Christmas will be held 2-5 p.m. Saturday in Calsonic Arena.

The free indoor festival, intended by the Celebration as a way of giving back to the community, has become a Shelbyville tradition. It features a live nativity scene, an indoor train ride, a petting zoo along with other live animals, vendor booths, live performances including performances by various church choirs and other performers, and free photos with Santa Claus.

The train ride is particularly popular, and at one point in the ride indoor "snow" falls on the passengers in the open train cars.

There's no charge for admission or parking, although those attending are encouraged to bring non-perishable food items or a new toy in its original packaging, without gift wrap, for distribution to those in need.

This year, a team of Percheron horses will be on display, said Celebration CEO Mike Inman.

The event will take place earlier in the day than past festivals, so that it doesn't conflict with a Walking Horse Trainers Association banquet being held that evening in Franklin.

For more information about the event, call the Celebration at 931-684-5915.

*** Santa Fly-In

Santa will fly in to Shelbyville Municipal Airport at 11 a.m. Saturday and will greet children from 11 a.m. until 2 p.m. The event will take place rain or shine; Santa will use alternate transporation if necessary. Children young and young-at-heart can have their picture taken in front of his plane while sitting on his knee. Hot cocoa will be served. Other children's activities will be available, and there's no charge for admission or parking. Parents should bring a camera or smartphone.
