Champs' Anderson signs with Martin Methodist

Michael Anderson has been around a lot of soccer.

The recent Cascade graduate not only played varsity level for the Champions, but also played at a high level with his travel team.

His consistency in the goal helped land him a spot playing at Martin Methodist College.

"I really enjoyed the campus. I got to talk to the coach there at the time about soccer opportunities. Once I got hooked in with soccer, I really saw how cool the campus was and they have the degree I want to pursue," he said,

While he's been playing for the better part of his life, his signing with the Red Hawks is the end of more than a decade of dedication to the sport.

With Anderson in goal, Cascade blazed a trail to an unbeaten District 6-A record and a 6-A district title before falling to Chattanooga School of Arts and Sciences in the Region 3-A semifinals.

Anderson first popped up on Martin Methodist's radar during his early years with the Champions.

"They saw me play my freshman or sophomore year. I had a couple other schools, but tuition wise, that one was the best fit," he said.

"It's only about an hour away from home so I can come back and visit family on the weekends."

Although he's been part of several close-knit teams, he said his best memory in the sport has been with his teammates at Cascade.

"I play travel too, so I don't just play school ball. For some reason, losing the other night hit harder. I've gone to state twice for travel and that didn't hit as hard as the one the other night. You grow attached to not only your school, but your team that's there with you," he said.

While he'll get a new set of teammates when he reports to Martin Methodist, he'll be meeting a new coach as well, as the former coach of the Red Hawks left the program and once the school makes the hire, Anderson will begin training for his freshman season in collegiate soccer.

"The coach that was there, left to go to DII. They currently don't have coach at the moment. They should have one in June and we'll go from there," he said.

Anderson plans on studying business management.
