Cascade’s Champions claimed their second win of the season over Shelbyville Central’s Golden Eagles in a dominating 70-36 victory at home on Tuesday night.
“I didn’t have our guys prepared and I was outcoached,” Shelbyville Central coach Kody Howard said. “You can just put this loss on me as a coach. I have to be better.
The Champions took control early and never looked back, posting leads of 21-5 at the end of the opening frame, 34-12 at the intermission and 63-25 after three periods.
“You know some nights just go your way and that was the case for us tonight. I felt like our guys executed what we wanted to do defensively. We kind of took them out of what they were trying to do on offense and then we gained some momentum and built a good lead,” Cascade coach Chris Lawson said.”We had several guys step up and do their job defensively.”
Justis Carter scored a game-high 19 points to pace the winners while Lucus Clanton added 13.
The Champions defense didn’t allow any Shelbyville Central player to reach double figures in scoring.
Zay Reese netted seven points to lead the Golden Eagles.
“We really didn’t have a drop off when we took our starters out and played our other guys,” Lawson said. “Those guys came in and did a good job of rebounding, playing physical and sharing the basketball. That’s team basketball and that’s Cascade basketball.”
Shelbyville Central (2-8) plays at Community on Friday night at 7:30.
