FAYETTEVILLE - After more than a month of mixed results in non-district play, the Cascade Champions opened District 8-A play with a 49-48 thriller of a victory at Fayetteville City.
The Champions were consistent throughout the contest, but relied on the efforts of Justis Carter, who posted a game-high 23 points in the win.
No lead felt safe throughout the game, with Cascade fighting to a 14-13 lead after the first quarter.
The one point advantage held through the half, but saw Fayetteville tie the game at 34-apiece after three quarters.
Carter answered the bell in the fourth frame and tacked on eight of the Champs' 15 points.
As a team, Cascade made good on four treys, with two coming from senior sharp shooter Landon Lane and two from Chance Brown.
In addition to the perimeter attack, the Champions shot an effective 7-of-11 tries from the charity stripe, which played a key role in holding on for the win.
Cascade followed Friday night's victory with a 54-44 win over Jackson County on Saturday.
The Champions open the home-district slate on Tuesday evening, hosting Cornersville at 7:30 p.m.
