T-G STAFF REPORT
In a rematch of last season’s Region 4-A title showdown against the Moore County Raiders, it was the Cascade Champions (3-1) who took the win in the first meeting during the 2021-2022 season on Monday night.
The Champions rallied past the Raiders (1-5) with a monster fourth quarter to take the 65-53 win over Moore County.
Through four games this season, senior Justis Carter has been the biggest source of offense for Cascade.
Against the Raiders, he got some big help from junior Lucas Clanton, who scored 19 points, including a nine-point fourth-quarter effort to help the Champions secure the double-digit victory.
Moore County clung to a 16-15 lead after the first period and maintained the one-point lead through the half after both teams posted 13 points in the second quarter.
Cascade evened the score at 41 apiece after three quarters before taking total control in the fourth.
In total, the Champions utilized its deep bench and placed nine players in the scoring column.
Carter’s 21 points led all scorers.
Although able to pull away late, one area Cascade struggled was at the free throw line, making good on just 9-of-18 attempts.
Moore County wasn’t without its heavy hitters, with Alex Copeland leading the Raiders with 17 points, while Colton Bateman chipped in 11.
Cascade closes the week with back-to-back games at Marshall County on Thursday and at Shelbyville Central on Friday night.
