BELL BUCKLE, Tenn. – The Cascade Champions (12-5, 2-2) secured a second-consecutive 10-0 run-rule win after five innings over District 9-AA foe, Cannon County (8-9, 2-4), on Wednesday night.
Xykaiah Dixon led all batters with a season-high five RBIs on the night after a bases-clearing triple in the third as part of a six-run inning before a 2-RBI double in the Champs’ four-run fifth inning.
Caleb Crouch got the start on the mound for Cascade, throwing the complete 5.0 innings and pitching a shutout, giving up just a single hit with four walks and seven strikeouts on 90 pitches.
For Cannon County, Levi Paxson started on the mound, throwing 2.2 innings and giving up five earned runs on three hits, four walks, and two strikeouts on 69 pitches. Eli Morris came on in relief, throwing the final 1.2 innings while giving up five earned runs on four hits, six walks, and a pair of strikeouts on 48 pitches.
Cascade got the scoring started in the bottom of the third inning after a pair of one-out singles plus a walk loaded the bases for Jaxson Milliken, who worked a four-pitch walk to drive home the first run of the game. Another pair of walks after an error on a strikeout drove home three more runs before Dixon’s bases-clearing triple scored the final three runs of the inning, giving the Champs a commanding 6-0 lead as the third inning came to a close.
After Crouch got through the fifth inning unscathed, Isaac Winton led off the home half by working a walk, Elijah Wesenberg reached first safely after a bunt, and then Jordan Childress drew his second walk of the night to load the bases for Dixon once again. Dixon came through with a 2-RBI double to give the Champs an 8-0 lead before Thomas Demartelaere drove home Childress on a sac-fly to draw Cascade within one run of walking off Cannon County.
The Lions intentionally walked Wickey Parker, but the promising freshman, Daymian Maldonado, walked off Cannon County with a hard ground-ball to short that allowed Dixon to beat out the throw at the plate.
Jordan Childress led off the Cascade lineup, finishing 1-2 at the plate with an RBI and a pair of walks. Dixon went 2-4 with a double, a triple, and five RBIs. Thomas Demartelaere went 1-1 with an RBI and a walk, Wickey Parker went 1-3 with a walk, and Maldonado finished 1-2 with a walk and the final RBI of the night.
In all, Cascade drew 10 free passes while slapping seven base hits. The Champions were also hit by three different pitches.
Cascade travels to Blackman on Friday with first pitch scheduled for 5:00 p.m.
