Champs win big, suffer hard fall

Early run production and a strong finish was enough to land the Cascade Champions a 13-7 non-district win on Friday evening at Culleoka.

Cascade came out of the gates red-hot and plated two runs in the first inning and three in the second to take a 5-0 lead over the Warriors.

Walker Craig got the Champs on the board when he clubbed a two RBI double in the top of the first frame.

Cascade played add on in the third when senior Adam Reeves smashed a three-run homer to left.

Chance Brown drove in a sixth run in the top of the third on a RBI single while Culleoka finally scratched a run across the plate in the bottom of the frame.

Zach Crosslin tacked on a seventh run in the fourth inning on a RBI single, giving Cascade a 7-1 advantage.

But in the following three innings, Cascade's bats went cold and the Champs were unable to push another run across the plate.

Cascade's best opportunity for an eighth run came in the seventh inning when Tyler Knight led off with a triple.

But the Champs were unable to come up with a hit with the runner in scoring position and left him stranded.

Meanwhile, the Warriors' offense came alive and by the seventh, Culleoka had pushed a game-tying seventh run across the plate, forcing extra innings.

In the eighth, Cascade wasted no time and put five of the first six batters in the inning on base.

Thanks to some selective pitching and a handful of Culleoka errors, Cascade was able to bat around and tack on six more runs.

Sawyer Lovvorn pitched the final inning in relief and slammed the door shut on any chance of a Culleoka comeback.

Cascade 231 100 06 - 13 11 3

Culleoka 001 023 10 - 7 7 3

Cascade: Chance Brown 3-for-6, Logan McDonald 2-for-4, Adam Reeves 3-for-5, Zach Crosslin 1-for-3, Walker Craig 1-for-3, Tyler Knight 1-for-2.

Forrest 17, Cascade 2

In a Saturday afternoon matinee, the Forrest Rockets jumped on the Cascade Champions early and never let off the throttle in a 17-2 romp.

Forrest plated eight runs in the top of the first and added two more in the third to take a 10-0 lead before Cascade was able to push a run across the plate.

Senior Cade Whitson put the Champs on the board when he crushed a one-out solo-homer in the bottom of the third.

Even with Cascade's first run, Forrest went back to work at the plate and drove in six more runs in the top of the fourth and finished the game with a 17th run in the top of the fifth.

Ryan Inmon added one final run in the bottom of the fifth inning on a RBI single that drove in Caden Hammonds.

Cascade returned to action on Monday for the first game of a two-game non-district series against Richland.

Game 2 of the series is set for 5:30 p.m., which will also be Cascade's Senior Night.

Cascade 001 01 - 2 3 5
