Momma said there will be nights like these.

In Thursday night's regular season finale, the Cascade Champions were plagued with an ice cold shooting performance against Jackson County and suffered a 56-39 defeat.

Offense was simply hard to come by for the Champions who have struggled with consistency in recent weeks.

While Jackson County wasn't particularly effective through 10 minutes of regulation, the Champs took a slim, two-point lead after Justis Carter came up with a steal and finished off the possession on a fast break layup with 6:39 left in the first half.

That basket marked the last points scored in the second quarter for the Champions as Jackson County built a double-figure lead on a 16-0 run to close the half.

In three of the four quarters, the Champions were held to single figures, but did show spurts of their effectiveness in a 20-point barrage in the third quarter.

Trailing 25-11 entering the third quarter, Cascade began feeding the post and Carter took over the paint and piled on eight points of his own in the frame.

He was aided by some perimeter help as well, with Chance Brown and Landon Lane both connecting on threes in the quarter.

By the end of the third quarter, Cascade had cut the Blue Devil lead to six points, but were also facing foul trouble at the guard position.

With Cascade's late surge in the third quarter, Jackson County answered by scoring eight-straight points to open the fourth quarter-a deficit which Cascade never was able to recover.

Carter's 18 points led the Champs as the only player to reach double figures for the home team.

For Jackson County, Ramon Cuevas scored a game-high 25 points.

There was also a vast disparity in effectiveness at the free throw line between the two teams.

Cascade shot just 3-of-6 attempts, while Jackson County cashed in on 16-of-23 tries.

Still, Cascade will get a week to rest and get back to work before playing their first game in the District 8-A tournament.

Having locked up the No. 1 seed, the Champions will host throughout the tournament, with the first game slated for 7 p.m. on Thursday.
