Food drive
UT/TSU Extension will be collecting canned goods for Good Samaritan through Friday as part of a statewide food drive in celebration of Food Waste Awareness Week. Drop off canned soups, canned fruits, jars of peanut butter or canned proteins like chicken, stew, beans and hot dogs, ravioli, spaghetti, etc. at the Extension Office, 2105 Midland Road, from 8 a.m.-4:30 p.m. For more information, call the office at 931-684-5971.

Easter egg hunt
Riverbend Ranch, 239 Cortner Mill Rd., is hosting an Easter egg hunt and pancake breakfast Saturday, April 9 beginning at 9 a.m.

T-Ball signups
Registration for First Christian Church T-Ball League will be 10 a.m.-noon Saturday, April 9 at the church.

Postcard show
The 18th annual Paper and Postcard Memorabilia Show is scheduled Saturday, April 9 from 9 a.m.-3 p.m. at The Fly Arts Center. Masks are suggested.

FFA Extravanganza
A Spring Extravaganza and Cruise-In is scheduled 4-8 p.m. Saturday, April 9 at Bedford County Agriculture Center. A cornhole tournament, food trucks and entertainment by the Mid-State Cloggers and Justin Williams & Band are scheduled. All proceeds will go to support Bedford County FFA. Bedford County FFA Alumni and Newton Motor Group are sponsors.

Pastor Pageant
A Pastor Pageant, to raise funds for Homes of Hope of Bedford County, will be held 6 p.m. Saturday, April 9 at Shelbyville Central High School’s theatre. Tickets, at $10 each, may be obtained by calling or texting Homes of Hope 931-205-6869 or contacting First Church of the Nazarene, Wartrace Baptist Church, First Assembly of God, Rover Baptist Church, International House of Prayer, Shiloh United Methodist Church, Himesville Nazarene Church, Gateway Church or Calvary Baptist Church and casting a vote for the participating pastor.

Bedford County Laity Club will meet 6 p.m. Sunday, April 10 at Normandy United Methodist Church, A meal will be furnished.

Republican forum
Republican candidates for Bedford County offices in the upcoming primary will speak Monday, April 11 at Bedford County Agriculture Center, Midland Road, from 7-8:30 p.m. Bedford County Republican Party is sponsoring the event.

Beer board
Bell Buckle Beer Board will meet 6 p.m. Monday, April 11 in Town Hall.

Easter egg hunt
Viviant Healthcare, 1101 Glenoaks Road, will hold its annual Easter egg hunt at 2 p.m. Friday, April 15, rain or shine. Children up to age 12 are invited. The Shelbyville Central Leo Club will help out.

Wartrace fern sale

City clean-up
The spring version of Shelbyville’s annual city-wide clean-up is scheduled Monday, April 18 through Thursday, April 21. Larger items that are not considered normal garbage, with some exceptions, may be left by the roadside on the week’s regular trash collection days.

Bell Buckle Historical Commission will meet 6 p.m. Thursday, April 19 in Town Hall.
Community Club

Pleasant Grove-Rich Valley Community Club will have a potluck supper at 7 p.m. Tuesday, April 19 at the Lions Club Clubhouse, 2694 U.S. 231 South. Meat and drinks will be supplied.

Bell Buckle Beautification Committee will meet 6:30 p.m. Thursday, April 21 in Town Hall.

APRIL 22

Cruise-In
Celebration City Car Club’s first Cruise-In this year will be Friday, April 22 from 6-8 p.m. on the Shelbyville square. Food trucks will be present, Chase Clanton and Vintage Vibes will perform and WZNG-The Zinger (100.9 FM/1400 AM) will broadcast live. Cruise-Ins are held each fourth Friday during warm weather months.

APRIL 23

Bake, yard sales
The Family Support Program, 111 Eaglette Way (across from Central High School), is holding a benefit yard and bake sale Saturday, April 23 from 7 a.m.-2 p.m. Proceeds to benefit children and adults with disabilities. The nearby Senior Citizens Center on J.G. Helton Drive is also holding a yard sake at the same time.

Barbecue cookoff
Shelbyville Moose Lodge #2197 will hold its 13th annual Barbecue Cookoff on Saturday, April 23. Additional Information for entries are at the lodge. Call 931-684-9137 for more information.

Food distribution
A commodity food distribution will be Thursday, April 28 from 10 a.m.-noon at Bedford County Agriculture Center, 2119 Midland Road.

MAY 7

5K run
The Run the River 5K is scheduled at 8 a.m. Saturday, May 7 at Riverbend Ranch (formerly Arrowhead Ranch), 239 Cortner Mill Road. Mother & Son Picnic
Shelbyville Recreation Center is hosting a Mother & Son (ages 4-14) Picnic at 11 a.m. Saturday, May 7 at the Lewis Pavilion in H.V. Griffin Park. Moms vs. sons carnival games will be followed by lunch. Cost is $10 per person. Sign up at shelbyvilletnparks.org.

Fish fry
First Choice Pregnancy Center’s annual fundraising fish fry is scheduled Saturday, May 7 at Walnut Ridge Farm, 1198 Whiteside Hill Road, Food will be served from 3-6 p.m. Purchase tickets at eventbrite.com or by calling the center, 931-680-0066.

Decoration Day
Decoration Day at Mt. Lebanon Cemetery will be Saturday, May 7 at 2 p.m. Donnie Porter will be guest speaker. Donations may be made the day of decoration or mailed to Freida Barnett, 2079 Warners Bridge Road, Shelbyville, TN 37160.

Soup kitchen
Shelbyville Community Soup Kitchen serves meals from 4-5 p.m. Tuesdays at the old Save-A-Lot building on South Cannon Boulevard. One take-away meal per person present, with come-and-go service only. Donations may be made to Shelbyville Community Soup Kitchen, 122 Public Square N., Shelbyville, TN 37160 and are tax deductible under its 501c3 non-profit designation.

Head Start signups
All Head Start and Early Head Start Centers are taking applications for fall 2022 enrollment. For more information or to complete an application, contact any Head Start Center. Phone numbers are Wartrace 931-389-6406, Harris Head Start 931-773-0033, North Side Head Start Center 931-773-0141 and Bedford Early Head Start 931-685-0876.
For Head Start, the child must turn 3 before Aug. 15, 2022. For Early Head Start pregnant women make weekly educational visits and for the center children 6 weeks up to 3 years old are eligible.

Seniors meals
The Shelbyville/Bedford County Senior Citizens Center is serving breakfast on Tuesdays and Thursdays at 9 a.m. You must be 60 or over to participate. Contact Gary at 684-0019 to sign up (two-day notice required) and for menu details. There is no charge for the breakfast, but a donation to help the program continue and expand is greatly appreciated.

County meetings
Bedford County Courthouse is closed for government meetings until at least March due to remodeling. Meetings of the full County Commission are held at Shelbyville Central High School auditorium on Eagle Boulevard and committee meetings at Bedford County Office Complex on Dover Street.

Assistance
The State Health Insurance Assistance Program (SHIP)/Senior Medicare Patrol (SMP) is a statewide program that provides free and objective counseling and assistance to people with questions or problems regarding Medicare and other related health insurance. They do not sell insurance. New volunteers are needed in Bedford County. Training is provided both online and in person. Call 1-877-801-0044 or 931-379-2927, or email Mike David at mdavid@sctdd.org.

Baptist
Calvary Baptist Church’s Sunday service will be held at 10 a.m. with Bro. Jimmy Gray presenting the message. Services are livestreamed.

Edgemont Baptist Church’s message Sunday will be “There is Hope in His Power” from John 5:1-14 by Pastor Jimmy West. Services are livestreamed. An Easter Egg hunt is scheduled for Saturday, April 9 from 11 a.m.-1 p.m. An Easter sunrise service will be held at 7:30 a.m. Sunday, April 17.

“Jesus’ Triumphant Enty” from Mark 11:1-11 will be Sunday’s message by Pastor Bobby McGee at Grace Baptist Church. Services are livestreamed.

Hannah’s Gap Baptist Church will have a sunrise service at 7 a.m. Easter Sunday, April 17. Billy and Felicia Moon will provide special music and Bro. Jonathan Curry will bring the message.

Christian (Disciples of Christ)
First Christian Church’s message will be from John 19, looking at a timid friend of Jesus — Joseph of Arimathea. Maundy Thursday worship will be at 6:30 p.m. First Christian T-Ball League registration is Saturday, April 9 from 10 a.m.-noon.

Church of Christ
Sunday’s sermon at Fairlane Church of Christ will be “What Are You Shouting?” from Mark 11:1-11. Services are livestreamed and broadcast on WLIJ (98.7 FM/1580 AM).

Guest speaker Kelly Campbell’a lesson at 10 a.m. Sunday at Southside Church of Christ will be “The Goal of our Faith” from 1 Peter 1:8-9. Prayer and parents groups meet at 6 p.m. Sunday. Food, an egg hunt and devotional are scheduled at 6:30 p.m. Wednesday. The Sunday morning and Wednesday evening services are livestreamed at cofcsouthside.com.

Methodist
First United Methodist Church will hold an Easter egg hunt event from 2-4 p.m. Saturday, April 16 at Never Rest Park. Fun, games, food and a visit from the Easter bunny are planned. The hunt itself starts at 3 p.m.

Presbyterian
First Presbyterian Church’s Palm Sunday service will be held at 10 a.m. led by Pastor Jim Moran. The sermon will focus on Luke 19:28-40, “Triumphal Entry.” Services are livestreamed on Facebook.
