Cascade High's 2021 valedictorian, Connor Primm, presented his graduation speech Saturday. In addition to reaching the top of his graduating class academically, he's also quite the music man, with music education goals for the future.
The son of James and Linda Prim of Bell Buckle, Connor earned his place at the top of his class with a cumulative numeric average of 101.188 and an ACT composite score of 33. His academic affiliations include National Honor Society, National English Honor Society, Spanish Honor Society, Interact Club, and Leadership Bedford.
He has represented Cascade High School at the Tennessee Student Congress on Policies in Education and was selected as an alternate delegate for the Tennessee Boy's State Conference.
Musically, Connor has performed for the Curb Youth Symphony, playing principal for the past season. He also auditioned and was selected for the Tennessee All-Midstate Concert Band 6 years in a row, making the All-State Band twice.
In addition to these classical ensembles, he is also the only musician from Cascade High School to ever qualify for the Tennessee All-State Jazz Band. He was also a recipient of the prestigious Myra Jackson Blair Scholarship through Vanderbilt University's Blair School of Music, studying trumpet under Nashville Symphony Associate Principal trumpet Patrick Kunkee.
At Cascade, he has performed in the marching band, wind ensemble, jazz band, and chamber winds ensemble. This year, he started a brass quintet called "The Five" that has just released their first album, called "A Journey Through High School".
In the fall, he will be continuing his education as a Buchanan Fellow at Middle Tennessee State University in Murfreesboro, majoring in Music Education.
