The Bedford County Crush Trap team has had a busy season, competing in tournaments ranging from Christiana, to Nashville, and from Alabama to Kentucky.

Each year, the team competes at the AIM/Grand American Trapshooting Championships, usually held in Sparta, Illinois.

While most major sports have had to adapt to the ongoing pandemic, the Bedford County Crush Clay Target team was thrilled to conclude their season with a sense of normalcy and compete in the largest amateur trap shoot in North America, The ATA Grand American, which was relocated to Linn Creek, Missouri.

The competition brought in shooters from across the country, while enacting a variety of new safety measures to protect participants from COVID-19, including mask and social distancing mandates.

Over 1,200 shooters participated in the AIM portion of the event, offering up some of the toughest competition for the Bedford County participants.

The Crush’s Junior Gold team came away with the Class C runner up award and totaled a team score of 954 in the team singles event.

Two team members of the team also took home individual awards in the handicap event.

Gunnar McGowan took the sub-junior sixth place award with a score of 97, while Evan Phillips took the junior 10th place award with as score of 97.

With the conclusion of the event, the members of the Bedford County Crush are turning their focus toward the fall season.

Even in the face of adversity surrounding the COVID-19 pandemic, the shooters were able to take the adjustments in stride and compete at the highest level.
