Duck River Electric Membership Corporation will hold six free home energy workshops for its members next month. The workshops, which will be held at various locations across the multi-county DREMC service area, are designed to teach attendees ways to lower electric bills with proper attic insulation and air sealing as well as other helpful tips to create a more efficient and comfortable home.

In addition to valuable energy-saving advice and a light meal, each household attending the workshops will receive a free home energy kit, which includes caulk, outlet and switch gaskets and more, to begin making energy efficiency improvements. As a bonus, workshop attendees also receive a limited-time, $500 attic insulation rebate offer from DREMC applicable when registering in eScore and using a certified professional in TVA's Quality Contractor Network.

"Proper attic insulation is a key element in making your home more energy efficient and comfortable," said DREMC's Residential Energy Advisor Pat Garrett. "For all-electric homes, heating and cooling accounts for about 50 percent of your electric bill. In the workshops, we not only share how much insulation is recommended for your home but also over 100 other energy efficiency tips to help lower your energy bills."

DREMC began hosting the Home Energy Workshops in 2017, and since then more than 750 people have attended and 575 total DIY starter kits have been distributed to attendees.

Workshops will be hosted by DREMC next month in Decherd, Lynchburg, Manchester, Chapel Hill, Columbia and Shelbyville. Specific dates, times and locations for the Spring 2020 Home Energy can be found on the cooperative's website at www.dremc.com/diy-energy-efficiency-workshop/. Pre-registration is required by calling 931-680-5883. Seating is limited.
