A monster second quarter proved to be just what the doctor ordered as Shelbyville Central knocked off visiting Mt. Pleasant on Tuesday night.
While Shelbyville eventually took complete control of the game, the game started off in a closely-contested matchup that left the Tigers on top 19-17 after the first quarter.
Even with a two-point deficit, Shelbyville remained unfazed and the Eagles broke loose in the secon quarter.
Led by Jai'lain Anderson, the Eagles piled up 31 points in the half to stretch the lead to 25 points by the intermission.
Anderson proved to be a one-man wrecking crew as he piled up 14 of his game-high 25 points in the quarter, including a pair of three-pointers.
Terrence Johnson and Braxton Banks also connected on treys and added five points apiece in the quarter.
Following halftime, Shelbyville continued to flex its might and added 15 more points, disperse among six players.
Mt. Pleasant did, however, mount a late-game charge and out-scored the Eagles 18-11 in the fourth quarter, but couldn't overcome the earlier deficit.
In addition to Anderson, Devyn Heath also hit double figures and added 11 points.
As a team, the Eagles connected on seven three-pointers.
Shelbyville only attempted one free throw in the contest.
The Eagles returned to their home court on Thursday evening and faced off against Lawrence County in a district 8-AAA contest.
