MANCHSETER - A hot start at the plate and a strong outing by starter Logan Roberts landed the Shelbyville Central Golden Eagles a big win the Crethan Hansert Tournament on Friday evening.
The Eagles plated eight runs in the first two innings and coasted to the 8-3 win over Grundy County.
Shelbyville jumped on the Grundy County pitching staff early and sent eight batters to the plate in the first inning alone.
While Shelbyville drove in three in the first frame, it was the five-run second inning that put the game out of reach for the Eagles.
In the second inning, two different Eagles were hit by pitches and Grundy County committed a handful of errors in the field that allowed the Eagles to springboard to an 8-0 lead.
Grundy County managed a rally of sorts in the fourth frame and was able to plate three runs, but got no additional run support.
Aiden Edwards led the Eagles with a pair of base hits, while Roberts helped his own cause with a pair of base hits as well with two RBIs.
Caden Thomas had the biggest hit for Shelbyville with his second-inning triple.
On the mound, Roberts worked around three earned runs on six hits,
Caleb Molder took over in the seventh and pitched the final inning in relief.
He struck out one and gave up one hit.
The Eagles will travel back to Coffee County on Tuesday night for Game 1 of the two-game series against the Red Raiders.
