MURFREESBORO — On Saturday, Shelbyville Central capped what’s been a busy week with their best effort of the young season.
Despite rallying for three runs in the top of the seventh, the Eagles weren’t able to push the tying run across the plate and took the tough luck loss, 7-6.
The Eagles out-hit Siegel in the game, connecting on seven hits, highlighted by a pair of doubles by Ahmad Coats and Caden Thomas.
Shelbyville grabbed the early 1-0 lead in the top of the second and Nick Johnson scored on a dropped third strike.
Siegel answered by plating four runs in the bottom of the inning.
But Coats’ double plated a pair of runs to bring the Eagles back within a score.
Siegel responded with another three runs in the bottom of the fourth inning.
With their backs against the wall, Johnson ground into an RBI fielder’s choice in the seventh, scoring William Bobo and Caden Thomas.
The Eagles got a third run in the inning on a RBI single by Kyler Trice, but just couldn’t come up with the needed hit to push the tying run across the plate.
Shelbyville opened a two-game series against Warren County on the road on Monday night and will play Game 2 against the Pioneers on Tuesday evening at home.
