A fifth-inning rally wasn't enough for the Shelbyville Central Golden Eagles in a Saturday afternoon matinee against Stewarts Creek.
Stewarts Creek hammered the Eagles for 16 hits and claimed the 14-4 win over Shelbyville.
The visitors plated two runs in the top of the second but it wasn't until a five-run fifth inning that things began to spin out of control.
Even with a 7-0 lead after three, Stewarts Creek closed the game by scoring one run in the fourth and three runs in the fifth and sixth innings.
Shelbyville managed a fifth-inning rally that drove in four runs.
Hunter Wilhelm accounted for two of the Eagles' hits, while Aiden Edwards, Brady O'Neal, Caleb Molder and Caden Thomas all singled.
A.J. Parker got the start on the mound and went two innings before the Eagles tapped into the bullpen.
Thomas worked 1 2/3 innings on relief and gave up three runs on two hits, while Logan Roberts allowed seven hits in 1 1/3 inning on the bump.
Molder also pitched an inning and allowed only one hit and one walk.
Shelbyville was back in action for Game 1 in a two-game series against Tullahoma, with Game 2 scheduled for Tuesday night.
