Eagles' rebound a little too short

SMYRNA — After trailing by 15 points at the half, the Shelbyville Central Golden' Eagles put forth a valiant comeback effort in the second half, only to come up just short against Smyrna on Monday night.

Despite being outscored 37-29 in the second half, Smyrna held on for the 67-60 victory over the Eagles.

Jai'lain Anderson gave everything he had and then some to help the Eagles rally for 23 points in the third quarter.

He led all scorers with 25 points, including three triples as part the huge third quarter.

Smyrna jumped out to a 19-14 lead after the first frame and tacked on another 19 points, while holding the Eagles to single digits.

In the second, Shelbyville managed just three field goals.

In addition to Anderson's 25 points, Jayshon Jones also hit double figures and scored 14 points.

As a team, the Eagles connected on six treys, four of which came courtesy of Anderson.

The team also connected on 9 of 13 attempts at the free throw line.

The Eagles will be back on the road on Friday with a road contest at Summertown.
