The third quarter was the difference in Shelbyville Central's Golden Eagles 66-46 to visiting Lawrence County in a District 8-AAA matchup on Thursday night.
The Eagles jumped out to an 11-8 advantage at the end of the first quarter and were behind 28-22 at the intermission.
It was in the third period when Shelbyville Central lost control of the game as the Eagles were outscored 23-9 in that stanza and trailed 51-31 going into the fourth quarter.
In the third, Wildcat Alex Carr scored 12 of his game-high 20 points.
"Give Lawrence County credit, they played well and did a good job of moving the basketball and their shot selection was very good," Shelbyville Central coach Andrew Hicks said.
"I thought we missed a lot of open shots around the rim and missed a lot of kick-out threes. We were down six points at halftime and I thought we really should have been up that many."
Senior Jai'lain Anderson led the Eagles in scoring with 14 points.
"We got into foul trouble early and that really hurt us but at the end of the day you've got to put the ball into the hole and we didn't do a good job of doing that," Hicks said.
"Defensively, we didn't allow them to score more points that they are used to scoring. We just got to do a better job on both ends of the court."
The Eagles (6-6, 1-3) traveled to Tullahoma Friday night for a district battle.
