SHELBYVILLE, TN – The Shelbyville Golden Eaglettes, perhaps frustrated with the result of their season opener, opened the 2024/25 home slate with an emphatic win over the Glencliff Colts from Class 3-A, 78-10, on Saturday afternoon to pick up the first win of the season.
Jada Berry led the way with a game-high 21 points for the Eaglettes, and she was joined in double-figures by both Jaz Western and Lanaya Young, who finished with 11 points apiece. Destiny McCullough connected on a pair of three-pointers and finished with eight points. Morgan Pridemore and Rayne Pointer finished with six points each as well.
Glencliff, who only had six girls on their roster active, didn’t connect on a field goal until the second quarter, and didn’t score a single point in the third quarter either. Nyavvach Goach led the Colts with six points, all in the first half. Faith Amouzou chipped in with three points, all coming at the free throw line, while Manuela Lewis split a pair of free throws in the fourth quarter to complete the scoring.
Shelbyville led 20-4 after the opening period with Western leading the way with seven points as six different Eaglettes found the bottom of the net to get in the scoresheet. This continued in the second quarter, as Shelbyville outscored Glencliff 16-5 to take a 36-9 lead into the halftime locker room.
Things got worse for the visitors in the second half, as Shelbyville scored 29 points in the third quarter alone while pitching a shutout to take a 67-9 lead into the final frame. Berry led the way with 10 points in the period while nine different Eaglettes scored at least a point in the third quarter. Shelbyville outscored the Colts 11-1 in the fourth quarter to pick up their first win on the season.
Shelbyville improves to 1-1 (0-0) and will host Beech on Monday night at 7:00 p.m.
