FRANKLIN, TN – The Shelbyville Central Golden Eaglettes rebounded nicely after falling at Summit on Monday, beating the Centennial Lady Cougars, 55-21, on Tuesday night.
Kenley Patton, Janiya Leslie, and Lanaya Young all reached double-figures scoring with 12 points, 12 points, and 10 points, respectively. Jaz Western also chipped in with seven points of her own. As a team, Shelbyville got to the line 22 times, but only converted on nine of their attempts despite the 34-point win.
Shari Wiseman led the Lady Cougars in scoring with just seven points as the Eaglettes’ defense took over the game in the second half, completely shutting down the Centennial offensive attack.
Shelbyville opened the game intent on attacking the basket, finishing the opening period with 10 free-throw attempts. Kenley Patton was 3/6 in the quarter, while Lanaya young and Janiya Leslie each went 1/2 at the charity stripe. Leslie also connected on a three-pointer, finishing the quarter with six of SCHS’ 16 points. Wiseman connected on a three of her own in the quarter and also split a pair of free throws to finish the opening period with four of the Lady Cougars’ seven points.
The Eaglettes continued to be aggressive on the offensive end, outsourcing Centennial, 13-10, in the second quarter. Patton led the way with seven points, including one three-pointer. Four different players connected on a field goal for the Lady Cougars, including Wiseman and Mabry Simmons each knocking down a three. Shelbyville went into the halftime locker room with a 29-17 lead.
In the third quarter, the Eaglettes completely stifled the Lady Cougars offensive attack, outscoring Centennial, 21-2, in the period. Western scored all seven of her points in the third quarter, and Young scored seven of her ten points in the third as well. Quincy Anderson was the only Lady Cougar to score in the second half, connecting on one two-point field goal in each quarter.
In the final frame, the Eaglettes put the finishing touches on their 55-21 victory, outsourcing Centennial, 5-2, in the fourth quarter.
Centennial loses their second consecutive game to drop to 1-7 on the season.
Shelbyville Central improves to 4-5 on the year, and will travel to Siegel on Monday, December 16, LIVE on WLIJ 98.7 starting at 5:45 p.m.
