NASHVILLE — The Community Vikings erupted for nine runs in the opening inning and gradually added to their lead along the way as the Vikings defeated the East Nashville Eagles 19-2 in a Region 4-AA semifinal baseball game Monday.
Eight Viking starters had safeties as Community (18-15) banged out 17 hits and played errorless ball in the field en route to its region win at Shelby Park.
The Vikings wasted little time gaining the upper hand as Community used eight hits to score nine runs in the opening inning.  Mason Russell had a two-run double and Corey Paterick connected on a single for two runs as seven different Vikings had RBIs.
Thirteen Vikings went to the plate in the inning.
Community added to its lead in the second as a Gage Underwood double led to two runs and an 11-0 Viking lead.
The Eagles used two hits to score two runs in the bottom of the inning to cut the Community lead to 11-2.
A Blaine Paschal two-run double and a run-scoring single by Dylan Norris highlighted a 5-hit top of the third as the Vikings tallied six runs to increase their lead to 17-2.
An RBI-single by Norris in the fifth led to two more Community runs and a 19-2 lead.
Meanwhile, three Viking hurlers combined for 11 strikeouts in five innings of work.
Starter Mason Russell struck out five in two innings while Paschal followed with three strikeouts in the next two innings.
Underwood struck out the side in the bottom of the fifth as Community punched its ticket to the Region 4-AA final and a rematch against the Forrest Rockets on Wednesday and a sectional game later in the week.
Norris had four hits and Underwood had three to lead the Vikings at the plate.
The Vikings lost twice by one run in each game against the Rockets in the District 7-AA tournament.
Wednesday's game will be played in Chapel Hill.
