Elizabeth Hale Morfitt

Elizabeth Hale Morfitt, age 94, died December 22, 2020, in Caldwell, Idaho, after a brief illness. She grew up in Flat Creek, the eldest child of Paul and Alice Hale.

After graduating from Central High School in 1944, she was recruited by the government to work with the Manhattan Project in Oak Ridge. She was married to Dr. John Winslow Morfitt, a nuclear physicist at Oak Ridge.

Elizabeth was an active volunteer in many state and local organizations. A member of the Daughter of the American Revolution, she was an Honorary State Regent at the time of her passing.

In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by: daughter, Barbara; son, Craig Morfitt; and brothers, Homer, Haskell, Edward and Roger Hale.

She is survived by: daughters, Susan Van Leuven of Caldwell, Idaho, and Carolyn Kothe of Omaha, NE, sisters; Roxanna Francesconi of Flat Creek and Paula Fowler of Kingston and brother Malcolm Hale of Charleston, South Carolina.

Her wish was to return to Tennessee where she will be buried at Rosebank Cemetery in Flat Creek. A DAR Marking Ceremony will be held at a later date.
