BELL BUCKLE — In their final home game of the season, the Cascade Lady Champions attempted to rally back throughout their match with the Forrest Lady Rockets, but ultimately suffered a 1-0 defeat on Senior night.
“This was a hard loss,” Lady Champions head coach Wendy Williams said. “Forrest is a tough opponent. They were first to the ball a lot, and they’re a tough all-around team.”
“We played hard, but we made some mistakes. We have some things to work on, but we’ll come back.”
It was a close-knit contest for the entirety of the matchup as both teams took their fair share of shots at goal, but only the Lady Rockets (7-3-1, 4-1-1) could find the back of the net.
Senior Jaedyn Stalnecker netted the lone goal after she sliced her way down the right side of the field in the 26th minute.
In the first half, the Lady Champions (4-2, 3-2) took 12 shots at goal but couldn’t get one to fall.
The closest of those shots came in the final four minutes of the first half when junior Eve Speirs was a few feet from putting it in before the Lady Rockets goalie was able to grab the ball.
Speirs and fellow junior Emma Ward lead Cascade’s attack with five and fours shots respectively.
Forrest carried their 1-0 lead into halftime, and held onto it for the rest of the matchup.
The Lady Champions fought to level the score throughout the second half by winning the ball defensively and immediately pushing the ball upfield, but they couldn’t put the ball in the back of the net.
With the district tournament looming, the Lady Champions will wrap-up the regular season next week against the Community Vikings as both teams aim to claim a district win to close out the season.
“We just have to come out tougher, and head into the district tournament wanting to win,” Williams said.
