EAGLEVILLE — During the Section 3-A tournament, held in Eagleville on Saturday, the Cascade Champion wrestling team placed fifth overall and saw four individual wrestlers qualify for the upcoming Class A state tournament, which will be held at the Wilson County Expo Center later this week.
Vayden Moore and Cole West took third in their respective weight divisions, while Cole West was the top finisher for Cascade.
He finished second in the 220-pound weight class, while Dylan Warren finished fourth at heavyweight.
Landon Kling and Isaiah Smith both participated in the sectional tournament over the weekend as well.
Moore finished third in the 126-pound weight class. He opened with a forfeit win in the quarterfinals, but suffered a loss in the semifinals to Green Hill’s Colton Reid.
Moore Rebounded with a hard-fought win via pin over Adan Salazar of White House in 4:16. He finished his tournament with a win via 4-3 decision in the consolation round over Watertown’s Kashis Redd.
Dowell also took third, reaching the podium in the 182-pound weight class.
Like Moore, Dowell opened with a quarterfinal win, but was defeated in the semifinals.
He finished the tournament with back-to-back pins to secure third-place and a trip to the state tournament.
Cole West was the top finisher for the Champions.
West took a quarterfinal win via pin over Mason Mejia in 2:30 and followed with a trip to the 220-pound championship match after pinning Caleb Meeks of Page at the 5:58 mark.
While West was able to win a pair of matches to reach the title round, it was Eagleville’s Donevin Darnell who claimed a win via pin over West in 2:33.
Dylan Warren was the final state qualifier for Cascade after finishing fourth in the 285-pound class.
Warren suffered a pin in the quarterfinal round by Tullahoma’s Zech Swiger, but in the double-elimination tournament, Warren won back-to-back matches to reach the consolation match and secure a spot in the upcoming state competition.
In the end, Forrest’s Nathan Hall defeated Warren in the consolation finals with a pin at the 2:13 mark.
The four Champion wrestlers will begin their trek for state gold on Thursday at the Williamson County Expo Center.
