EAGLEVILLE —The Community Vikings sliced the Eagleville Eagle lead to single digits in the fourth quarter, but could not get over the hump as the Eagles took a 60-53 win in a basketball contest Friday night.
With the help of seven points from Stratton Lovvorn in the opening quarter, Community (2-5) battled to an 11-11 tie heading to the second quarter.
It was a big offensive output for the Eagles in the quarter.
Eagleville outscored the Vikings 20-12 and took a 31-23 lead into the intermission.
Cole Crockett scored seven points, including a perfect 5-of-5 from the free throw line while Maki Fleming added four to lead the Vikings in the third quarter.
But the Eagles added to their lead with 17 points and led 48-36 with one quarter to play.
Corey Paterick and Fleming each scored four points in the quarter as Community used three treys to cut into the deficit.  It was not enough as the Eagles finished with the win.
C.J. Goers had 26 points, including seven 3-pointers while Isaac Gazaway added 12 to lead Eagleville.
Lovvorn and Fleming each had 13 points to lead Community.
The Eagles were 11-of-18 at the foul line while the Vikings were 11-of-21.  Community travels to Huntland Tuesday night for a 7:30 p.m. game.
