High gas prices may be fueling thefts of the increasingly-expensive liquid in the area. Two reports were received this week by law enforcement.
•Approximately 70 gallons of diesel fuel were drained from a bulldozer at a construction site on Idle Drive between 4 p.m. Tuesday and 6:30 a.m. Wednesday, Shelbyville police said.
The bulldozer’s owner said he had paid approximately $5.50 per gallon for the gas, equaling a loss of $385.
An early 2000s model Chevrolet Blazer, gray with a light blue stripe and in rough condition, was seen in the area, police were told. The Blazer was occupied by two white males.
•Three gas cans, two filled, were stolen from a shed behind First Assembly of God, Highway 231 North, the Bedford County Sheriff’s Office was told Wednesday. A door was forced to gain entry.
Trailer theft
Another utility trailer was stolen Wednesday after a respite from a recent string of similar thefts, the BCSO said.
The owner said the P&T brand trailer had been beside a barn in the 700 block of Unionville-Chapel Hill Road.
Other thefts reported to area authorities this week:
•Several guns were stolen from a gun cabinet at a home on Cayenne Drive.
The owner returned from an out-of-town trip to find his front door open. A saw and pressure washer were missing from the front porch, the BCSO report said.
