SHELBYVILLE, TN – After starting the year on a three-game winning streak, the Shelbyville Central Golden Eagles suffered their third-consecutive loss of the season, 62-49, against the visiting Siegel Stars on Friday night.

A game-high 21 points from Lawson Lee, along with 17 points from Dorien Lyles, proved to be enough for the Stars in a game that was really never as close as the score indicates. Carter Webb also chipped in with 13 points for the Stars.

For Shelbyville, Jordan Taylor led the way with a team-high 12 points – all coming in the second half – while Malek Johnson was the only other scorer to end in double-figures with 11 points, all coming in the first half. Tae’Shawn Shelton was held scoreless in the first half, and he finished with just six points overall as he struggled to get going.

Siegel jumped out to a 19-12 lead after the opening period behind Dorien Lyles’ nine points in the quarter as the Stars got the Golden Eagles into early foul trouble. Shelbyville connected on four three-pointers in the quarter, led by Ladd Sparrow’s two threes off the bench, but were unable to get anything going around the basket.

In the second quarter, Siegel outscored Shelbyville, 21-11, to take a 40-23 lead into the halftime locker room. Lyles scored eight more points in the period, and Lee chipped in with seven points of his own. For Shelbyville, Malek Johnson was the only one to really have anything going as he connected on a pair of triples and a two-point field goal for eight of his team’s 11 points in the period.

Coming out for the second half, Siegel kept up the relentless offensive attack, outscoring Shelbyville, 17-14, spearheaded by Lee’s seven points in the quarter, to take a 57-37 lead heading into the final frame. Jordan Taylor and Shelton scored their first points of the game in the third quarter with each putting up six points.

In the final frame, Shelbyville made a bit of a run to close the gap and make the score a more respectable 62-49 by outscoring the Stars, 12-5, but it was too little too late to really threaten Siegel.

Siegel improves to 3-2 on the year and will host Wilson Central on Tuesday night.

Shelbyville falls to 3-3 overall and are scheduled for a rematch at Summit on Monday night at 7:30 p.m.
