FRANKLIN, TN – The Shelbyville Central Golden Eagles faltered in the second quarter of their 61-40 loss at the Centennial Cougars on Tuesday night, suffering their fourth loss in the last five games.

For the Cougars, Daniel Patton was unstoppable in the final three quarters, scoring a game-high 24 points after being shut out in the opening period, including finishing 8/8 from the free throw line. He was joined in double-figures by Ryland McKelvy who finished with 18 points with 13 of them coming in the second half alone.

For the Golden Eagles, only Jevon Lee reached double-figures scoring, finishing with a team-high 10 points. Idris Gray chipped in with nine points of his own, but it was the work done against Tae’ Shawn Shelton, who finished with just three points, that powered the Cougars to the dominant win.

The game was actually tied up after the opening period at 9-9, but it was in the second quarter that the hometown Cougars began to pull away from Shelbyville.

Patton single-handedly outscored the Golden Eagles in the quarter, 9-8, as the Cougars scored 18 points as a team in the period to go into the halftime locker room with a 10-point lead, 27-17. Jevon Lee was aggressive, getting to the free throw line six times in the quarter, but he only managed to convert on two of his six attempts, finishing with a team-high four points in the period.

Coming out of the halftime locker room, it was more of the same for the Cougars as they outscored Shelbyville, 16-10, in the third quarter to take a commanding 43-27 lead into the final frame. Jordan Taylor, who was held scoreless in the first half, and Gray both finished with four points in the period, but McKelvy for Centennial led the pace with seven points to help fend off the Golden Eagles.

In the final frame, the Cougars outscored Shelbyville, 18-13, to take home the 21-point win, 61-40. McKelvy put in six points, but Patton led the way for both sides, finishing with 11 of his 24 points coming in the fourth quarter.

Centennial improves to 6-2 on the season.

Shelbyville Central falls to 5-4 overall, and will play on Monday, December 16, at Siegel, LIVE on WLIJ 98.7 starting at 5:45 p.m.
