LEWISBURG, Tenn. – The Shelbyville Central Golden Eagles’ (3-0) offense scored 17 runs on 17 hits at Marshall County (1-6) on Thursday night to win by 13 runs, 17-4.
William and Stephen Bobo combined to go 7-8 from the plate with one walk each. William Bobo drove home two runs and legged out a triple while Stephen accounted for four singles and one RBI. Brody Thomas also went 4-5 at the plate with five RBI and a home run.
Palmer Edwards got the start for the Golden Eagles, going 4.1 innings and giving up three runs – all coming in the first inning – on six hits while striking out four batters and walking two on 83 pitches. Michael Estrada came on in relief, throwing 2.2 innings and giving up just three hits and one unearned run while striking out four batters on 38 pitches.
For Marshall County, Eli Cross started on the mound, and Shelbyville Central shelled Cross early and often, scoring three runs in the first inning and four in the second. Cross settled down in the third before giving up three more runs in the fourth inning and exiting the game trailing 10-3. He threw 4.0 innings, giving up 11 hits and 10 earned runs while striking out just one batter and walking another on 59 pitches. Reid Mitchell came on in relief, lasting 2.1 innings while giving up six hits and seven runs with five earned. Mitchell struck out a pair of batters but walked three. Marshall County struck out just three Golden Eagles all night.
After taking a 3-0 lead in the top of the first, the Tigers jumped on Edwards, responding with three runs of their own. Lucas Hery went 3-4 on the night, and he drove home a pair of runs in the bottom of the first inning to tie the game at 3-3 going into the second. Shelbyville then tacked on four in the second, three in the fourth, and two more in the fifth.
Marshall County held the Golden Eagles scoreless in the sixth, but Shelbyville exploded for five more runs in the seventh to balloon their lead to 17-3. The Tigers tacked on one run in the home half against Estrada to reach the final score of 17-4.
Shelbyville returns home against Brighton on Monday.
