SHELBYVILLE, Tenn. – The Shelbyville Central Golden Eagles (17-5, 3-3) completed the District 9-AAAA series sweep against Warren County (6-12, 1-5), 15-0 after five innings, at home on Wednesday night.
Stephen Bobo started for Shelbyville and threw the complete 5.0 innings, shutting out the Pioneers and giving up just three hits while striking out five batters on a hyper-efficient 58 pitches, bringing his season ERA down to an impressive 1.46.
His counterpart, Lealon Arnold, got the start for Warren County, pitching 3.0+ innings, giving up four runs, three earned, on eight hits and one walk with no strikeouts on 48 pitches. Ryder Gillispie came on in relief, but he only got one out while giving up four earned runs on one hit and two walks on 17 pitches. Hayven Jones then came in to get a second out, but he also gave up three earned runs on two walks and a strikeout after throwing 23 pitches. Jones was pulled for Jaytton Baker, then Brady Swallows, and finally, Keaton Rowe, who was able to tally the final out of the 11-run fourth inning. Baker, Swallows, and Rowe combined to give up four earned runs on three walks and four hits on 23 pitches.
To start, the Golden Eagles took a 1-0 lead in the first inning after Brody Lovvorn’s two-out RBI-single scored Caden Duggan for Lovvorn’s 13th RBI of the season. Shelbyville then doubled its lead in the bottom of the second when Duggan singled home Michael Estrada.
In the bottom of the third, after Palmer Edwards was hit by a pitch, a two-out double by Ashton Whorley followed by an error on the throw to third allowed Edwards to score the Golden Eagles’ third run. Following a bad pickoff attempt at second that let Whorley take third base, Reager Edwards hit an infield chopper to third that allowed both Whorley to score and Edwards to reach base safely, putting Shelbyville ahead, 4-0, going into the fourth inning.
After another clean inning from Bobo on the mound, William Bobo laced a leadoff double into left field to get the avalanche started. Duggan was hit by a pitch, then Lovvorn drew a walk to load the bases with one out. Caden Peacock drew a four-pitch walk to drive home the first run of the inning, and then Edwards drew a five-pitch walk against the new pitcher to bring home the sixth run of the game. Edwards was down to two strikes, but then was hit by another pitch before Estrada worked a walk to force the Pioneers to bring in a different pitcher, trailing 8-0.
With William Bobo back at the plate for the second time after leading things off to start the inning, he launched a bases-clearing triple into center to balloon the Golden Eagles lead to 11-0. Duggan roped an RBI-triple of his own, Stephen Bobo walked, and then Brody Lovvorn slapped an RBI-single into left to force Warren County to bring on yet another pitcher. Peacock drew another walk, and then Edwards recorded a 2-RBI double to reach the final margin of 15-0.
In all, Shelbyville’s offense tallied 13 base hits, worked eight walks, and drew three HBPs. William Bobo went 3-4 with a double, a triple, and three RBIs. Caden Duggan finished a perfect 3-3 at the plate with two RBIs and a triple. Stephen Bobo went hitless, but he did reach base with a walk. Brody Lovvorn batted 2-3 with a pair of RBIs and a walk while Palmer Edwards continued his strong stretch of games after going 1-2 at the plate with a walk and three RBIs.
Shelbyville travels to Chapel Hill on Thursday night with first pitch scheduled for 6:00 p.m.
