SHELBYVILLE, Tenn. – The Shelbyville Central Eaglettes (10-2, 4-0) and Golden Eagles (12-0, 4-0) took on non-district foe, Wilson Central, on Tuesday night with the Eaglettes falling, 4-3, and the Golden Eagles dominating, 6-1.
The Eaglettes started the afternoon with a pair of doubles wins with the pairing of Lilly Smith and Sophie Ray fending off the feisty duo of Lillia Coleback and Sophia Davis, 8-6. Addie Berry and Abby Thaxton handled Addie Cranor and Bella Delgado with relative ease, 8-2.
However, Wilson Central found a way to win four singles matches to steal it, with Colebanic and Davis both exacting revenge on Smith and Ray for Shelbyville with wins on Court One and Three, respectively. Colebanic took down Smith, 8-4, and Davis dispatched Ray, 8-2, to even things up on the scoreboard. Cranor also made quick work of Addie Berry, 8-2, on Court Two following Shelbyville’s Elesa Aldis taking care of Keagan Nixon, 8-1, on Court Five to even the score up at 3-3. It all came down to Court Four, where Abby Thaxton and Bella Delgado were in a hotly contested duel. Ultimately, Delgado won out, 8-6, to seal the win for Wilson Central, 4-3.
For the Golden Eagles, they continued their unbeaten start to the season despite splitting the doubles points. Henry Stone and Tucker Johnson took down Aadhish Udoya-Kurmer and Cameron Sather, 8-3, but Justin Spence and Tanner Johnson fell to Mateo Dorcey and Alex Fedie, 8-4.
Going into the singles matches level at 1-1, Shelbyville dominated, sweeping every match that was left. Stone battled out a hard-fought win on Court One over Udoya-Kurmer, 8-4, and Spence took down Sather with relative ease, 8-3, on Court Two.
