Five students at the Tennessee College of Applied Technology in Shelbyville received the J.C. Gordon Scholarship, totaling $7500, on Wednesday

The recipients were: Tristan Blackburn, Kris Hall, Daniel Perkins, Hayden Sheppard, and Clayton Whitacre.

Each are in their first trimester of study in the Machine Tool Technology program. With their scholarship award, they get to purchase a tool of the trade, such as micrometer gauges, calipers, scribes, and burrs.

Each were grateful to the Gordon Family benefactors and First Community Mortgage’s Cares nonprofit which sponsors the scholarship. This is the fifth year for the scholarship, which has awarded some 60 students, according to Dr. Laura Monks, TCAT-S president.

“We are thankful for the work from our community partners,” said Monks.

The scholarship is given in memory of local tradesman and community leader J.C. Gordon. FCM awards the scholarship to machine tool students as the trade “aligns closely with what Mr. Gordon did in life,” said FCM Board of Director Keith Canter.

Representing the Gordon Family at the presentation were wife Edna Gordon and daughters Connie and Jennifer.
