Henry Loyd Curtis, age 89, of the Pleasant Grove community passed from this life in the early morning hours on April 29, 2021 at his home surrounded by his five children.

He was born on May 18, 1931 in Lewisburg, TN to Henry Walker Curtis and Ola Casteel Curtis. He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife of 56 years, Naomi Smith Curtis, sister Louise Curtis Jones, brother William Roy Curtis, grandson Loyd Kent Curtis, Jr. "K.C.", and granddaughter Taylor Leann McCullough.

Loyd is survived by his five children, Kent (Rita) Curtis of Shelbyville, Karen (Barry) Smith of Shelbyville, Karlene Curtis of Shelbyville, Teresa Robertson of Lewisburg, and Keith (Dana) Curtis of Shelbyville; grandchildren, Jennifer Smith, Stephanie (Michael) Martin, Christopher Smith, Amanda (Timothy Eschbach) Morgan, Julie Woods, Gracie Curtis, and Buck Curtis; brother Clayton Curtis, sisters Elizabeth Warren and Mary Jo (George) Gibbs; and 12 great-grandchildren.

Loyd was a master brick mason and a master carpenter, and was an enthusiastic mentor for anyone who wanted to learn the craft. After he retired, he loved tending to his garden and woodworking. He was a faithful member of El Bethel Church of Christ. He was a kind and loving husband, father, and grandfather, and loved spending time with his family, sharing a meal around the table, playing a game of Rummy, or just sitting on the front porch talking and laughing. He will be greatly missed by anyone who had the honor to know him.

Funeral services will be held 2 p.m. Sunday, May 2, 2021 in the chapel of Doak-Howell Funeral Home with Brother Donnie Rader officiating and granddaughter Jennifer Smith eulogizing. Burial will follow at Hillcrest Memorial Gardens.

Visitation will be held beginning at 11:00 a.m. Sunday at the funeral home.
