Homeless man steals from homeless man

A homeless man driving a stolen truck has been charged with stealing $50 from another homeless man at Fisherman’s Park in downtown Shelbyville, according to a Shelbyville Police Department report.

Nathaniel Brown, 20, allegedly “fell asleep” in a truck owned by Southern Energy, Lane Parkway, then after waking up drove it to several nearby locations. Brown allegedly struck a vehicle at Shelbyville Inn and repeatedly drove through Fisherman’s Park.

A man who lives in his car at the park told Officer Michael Taylor he was missing $50. During that conversation Brown allegedly drove into the park and the victim identified him.

Brown was charged with theft of property, leaving the scene of an accident and driving without a license. He was being held on $15,500 bond Monday at Bedford County Jail.

•Two men were charged with allegedly breaking into a vehicle trailer behind Family Eye Care, North Main Street, early Friday.

Michael Shane Mullins, 50, who told police he is homeless, and Derrick Allen Wilhoite, 41, who allegedly said he sleeps on a box behind the trailer. were spotted by Officer Letisia Diaz shortly after midnight.

Mullins allegedly said he was retrieving a bottle of vodka he’d hidden near the trailer.

Both men said they’d done nothing and an unknown man on a red bicycle, who had tampered with the trailer’s lock, fled as police arrived. They claimed the bicycle rider broke the trailer’s lock while they were sleeping. White paint on Mullins’ arm matched the trailer, police noted.

The trailer’s owner came to the scene, said nothing was missing and declined to press charges.

Both are charged by police with burglary and were held on $5,000 bond.

**Unwanted return

A man ordered not to return to Bedford Manor Apartments after having involved in a shooting there in February was arrested Thursday after returning.

Michael Joseph Gamble, 22, of Smyrna had a bag of marijuana in his clothing, Officer Cody Swift’s report said.

Gamble was charged with possession of a schedule VI drug and criminal trespassing. He was released on $5,000 bond.

•Courtney Danielle Wix, 30, of Barksdale Lane was charged with criminal trespassing and shoplifting after allegedly trying to take a bag of chips and two mirrors from the Shelbyville Walmart on Sunday.

Wix had been told not to enter any Walmart after a previous incident. She was released on $1,500 bond.

**Fenced in

“Looking over fences,” as one West Lane Street resident complained to police, got a Shelbyville man arrested Saturday night.

Arriving officer Bryan Lashwood found Andrew Scott Broadway, 19, of Manchester allegedly removing planks from a fenced-in yard in an attempt to flee. Broadway allegedly laid in high grass and surrendered without further incident.

Broadway told Lashwood he’d consumed “10 to 11 beers.” He was charged with criminal trespassing, resisting stop/frisk/halt/arrest, vandalism, underage consumption and public intoxication and held on $8,000 bond.

**Drugs in jail

A Nashville man was charged Friday night with taking cocaine into Bedford County Jail.

Alberto Lozada Nunez, 45, of Nashville was allegedly seen driving on a Madison Street sidewalk and pulling in front of oncoming Elm Street traffic. He allegedly failed field sobriety tests.

Two foil packets of cocaine was allegedly in Nunez’s clothing as he was taken to jail on a DUI charge and he allegedly threw two more into a pile of laundry, Nubnez was also charged with driving without a license and having several open alcoholic beverages in his vehicle. He was held on $15,500 bond.

**Armed and asleep

A suspect allegedly found passed out behind the Circle K, South Cannon Boulevard, was charged with unlawful possession of a weapon when one was found on him by police Saturday morning.

The police report narrative did not specify what type of weapon.

Jacob Christian Ward, 23, of Hunters Lane was also charged with public intoxication and possession of drug paraphernalia. He was held on $6,650 bond.

**Thefts

•A blue 2006 Honda Odyssey van was stolen from a South Thompson Street apartment complex parking lot between 5:30-6 p.m. Saturday, police were told.

The van had been left unlocked with keys in the floorboard.

•A ladder, power tools and a shop vacuum are missing from a Brooklyn Circle home, Shelbyville police were told.

A suspect who has spent time at the home was named.

Left bike

A man riding a bicycle walked away and left it behind at The Dinner Table restaurant after hitting a pothole Friday on South Cannon Boulevard, police were told.

No similar bicycles have been reported stolen, according to police.
