September can be quite an interesting month. Many times we get rain off of hurricanes and in the past we have had anything from highs in the 90s to frost.
Young people often ask me how I got started in the weather business. When I was about 10 years old my grandfather bought me a thermometer and I started writing the temperature down and keeping up with the weather every day. When I was 14 I started getting weather books from the library and studying every day and my first job on the local radio station was in my senior year in high school.
I have two non weather claims to fame that I get a kick out of telling. Back in the 1980s Dolly Parton wished me a happy birthday and when Pat Sajak of Wheel of Fortune was a disc jockey in Nashville, I won a Thanksgiving turkey on his radio show.
