Humid, stormy weather for next week

The chance of rain will be on the increase for most of next week with scattered storms around every afternoon. A little cooler weather comes by Sept. 7 with afternoon temperatures not much above 80 degrees.
The Farmers Almanac had a great article about how occasionally you will see a halo around the moon at night. Did you ever wonder if it means anything on what kind of weather is coming?
I learned about this when I first started studying meteorology, and we do get rain about 70% of the time.
A lunar halo is caused by the refraction and reflection of light through ice particles suspended within wispy, high altitude cirrus or cirrostratus clouds. It’s often the precursor of impending unsettled weather, especially during the winter months.
Cirrus and cirrostratus clouds generally precede rain and storm systems.
So watch the night sky — and keep the umbrella handy!
