James Douglas George, Sr., age 71, of Shelbyville, passed from this life on Tuesday, August 13, 2024, at his home.
A native of Bedford County James was born on February 19, 1953, to the late James William George and Helen Gracine Pendergrast George. Along with his parents he is preceded in death by his sister, Wanda George; brother, Danny George; and great granddaughter, Myla Sophia Jade George.
Mr. George was a retiree after 20+ years as a tool and die machinist having worked with Heil Quaker and Goodman Company. He enjoyed fishing, especially going after bass, playing golf, and woodworking.
He is survived by wife, Cheryl Denise Lambert George of Shelbyville; children, James Douglas “Jamie” George, Jr. of Murfreesboro, and Denise George of Shelbyville; grandchild, McKenzie Chanelle Leigh George, Kameron Amy Underwood, Dominick Blake George, Collin Thomas George. Survivors also include siblings, Vicky George of Nashville, Ricky George of Shelbyville, and Ronda Taylor of FL.
Funeral services will be held 5:00 p.m. Thursday, August 15, 2024, in the chapel of Doak-Howell Funeral Home with Brother Wayne George officiating. Burial will follow at Willow Mt. Cemetery.
Visitation with the family will be held prior to funeral services on Thursday, beginning at 4 PM at the funeral home.
