Lady Champs drop 2 to end season

A Moore County Raiderette walk-off ended the Cascade Lady Champions' season in the District 8-A tournament on Tuesday night.

A two RBI double by Anysten Metcalf in the bottom of the seventh inning finished off the rally in the 3-2 win over Cascade.

The late-game drama finished off a rally by the Raiderettes, despite Moore County posting the early lead.

Jordan Lund plated the first run of the game on a RBI single by Metcalf, putting Moore County up 1-0.

Cascade answered in the top of the second following a leadoff double by Claire Perry.

She later scored when Cheyenne Simpson ground out for the first out of the inning.

From there, the game settled into ta complete pitcher's duel as both teams were held scoreless throughout the next three innings.

Cascade broke the stalemate in the top of the sixth when Lani Jones scampered home on a Raiderette error.

But as the fates would have it, Moore County drew up some timely hitting in the bottom of the seventh with two base hits and a base-clearing double that eventually won the game for the Raiderettes.

Cascade managed to keep it a close game despite only mustering up three hits in the contest, two of which went for extra bases.

Bailey Olive and Perry both connected for doubles, while Jones hammered out a single.

From the pitcher's circle, it was another strong outing by Brianna Horn, who has settled into her pitching role in the last few weeks.

After keeping Cascade in a one-run game against Hutland on Monday night, Horn minimized the damage by the Raiderettes at the plate.

Moore County connected on 11 hits, but managed just three runs.

Meanwhile, the Lady Champ starter tossed five strikeouts and gave up just two walks.

Moore Co. 100 000 2 - 3 11 2

Cascade: Lani Jones 1-for-3, Bailey Olive 1-for-3, Claire Perry 1-for-3.

Huntland 1, Cascade 0

After upsetting Cornersville in the first round of the District 8-A tournament on Friday night, Cascade looked to keep the momentum rolling into Monday night's contest against Huntland.

Despite a strong outing by Brianna Horn, Cascade couldn't come up with the needed hits and dropped a 1-0 decision for the first loss in the double elimination tournament.

Horn went the distance for Cascade and gave up just one earned run on one hit while striking out eight.

In fact, the lone hit in the game came off the bat of Ashtyn Danley in the fifth inning, which scored the game's only run.

Coupled with Monday's game against Moore County, Cascade finished the season on an upswing of momentum, despite not always finding the wins.

The three final games by the Lady Champs all ended as one-run final scores.
