BELL BUCKLE - The Webb Lady Feet jumped out to a commanding lead in the opening quarter and never looked back as the Lady Feet defeated the Providence Christian Academy Lady Lions 70-37 in the finals of the Division II Class A Region 2 tournament Monday night.
After winning their first ever district championship, the Lady Feet (25-2) added another piece of championship hardware to their trophy case in their history-setting season.
"It's neat to see a group of girls set a goal at the beginning of the year having never had that happen in school history and just achieve it," Coach Matt Shewmake of the Lady Feet said.
With Lashae Dwyer scoring eight points and Lauren Vann adding seven, the Lady Feet scored the first five points of the game and never trailed.
The Lady Lions cut the Webb lead to 11-7, but the Lady Feet proceeded to go on a 9-0 run and increased their lead to 20-7 before taking a 20-8 lead to the second quarter.
The tandem of Dwyer and Vann kept the momentum going in the quarter.
Dwyer scored 10 points and Vann added eight as the Lady Feet used a 12-0 run to go up 41-18.
Webb ended the half with a 41-20 advantage.
Ava Butts scored seven points and Dwyer added six to lead the Lady Feet offense as the Webb defense stepped to the forefront in the third quarter. The Lady Lions could only manage seven points as the Lady Feet scored 16 points and increased their lead to 57-27 with one quarter to play.
"We build off our defense," Shewmake said.
"We really buy into guarding people and putting pressure on."
The Lady Feet scored the first five points of the fourth quarter to increase their lead to 62-27 and necessitate a running clock.
Webb took its biggest lead at 64-28 before settling on the 33-point victory.
Dwyer scored 27 points to lead three Lady Feet in double figures. Vann added 23 points while Butts had 11.
"They doubled Shanice (Simpson-Whitely) inside and the other girls made them pay for it," Shewmake said.
Abby McFarland led Providence Christian with 10 points.
Dwyer, Butts, and Vann were selected to the All-Region team with Dwyer taking home the MVP award.
The Lady Feet will host a Division II Class A state quarterfinal matchup Friday.
