Lady Hilltoppers wilt under Eaglettes' pressure

SHELBYVILLE — Entering Monday night’s non-district matchup against Hillwood, the Shelbyville Central Golden Eaglettes’ game plan was to apply pressure to the visiting Lady Hilltoppers and create points in transition.
The plan worked as the Eaglettes suffocated the visitors in a 62-16 blowout victory.
Lanaya Young scored seven of her game-high 27 points in the first quarter as the Eaglettes jumped out to a 21-0 lead after the first eight minutes.
Not much changed into the second period as Young rattled loose for 13 more to spur on a 28-point quarter.
Paige Blackburn chipped in nine of her 14 points in the second quarter as well, with the Eaglettes building a 49-0 lead at the half.
Hillwood finally broke the stalemate and got on the board early in the third quarter and rallied for 12 points, including a pair of three-pointers, but couldn’t muster up much else as both teams finished with four points apiece in a running clock in the fourth.
Young’s 27 points led the way, while Blackburn added 14, including a pair of treys.
The Eaglettes also connected on 8-of-13 attempts at the charity stripe as well.
Shelbyville is back on its home court in Rick Insell Gymnasium this evening at 6 p.m., hosting arch-rival Tullahoma.
