HUNTLAND – Stratton Lovvorn scorched the nets for a career-high 42 points as the Community Vikings pulled away in the final 12 minutes to defeat the Huntland Hornets 76-60 Tuesday night.
It was the second win of the season for the Vikings over the Hornets.
Lovvorn had nine points while Make Fleming and Cole Crockett each had four as Community (3-5) led 17-11 after one quarter.
It was all Lovvorn for the Vikings in the second quarter.
The senior had all 17 Community points as the Vikings took a 34-20 lead into the Maki Fleming led the way for the Vikings with nine points in the third quarter as Community had to fend off a Hornet comeback.
Huntland pulled to within three at 40-37 with 3:43 to play before the Vikings rebounded and took a 53-44 lead to the final quarter.
It was another big quarter as Lovvorn led the Vikings with 12 points. His last two treys put him over the 40-point plateau as Community pulled away for the 16-point win.
Fleming scored 13 points to join Lovvorn in double figures for the Vikings.
Zeier Golden scored 21 points to lead three Huntland players in double figures. Noah Thompson and Braylen Phillips each added 12 points.
The Vikings were 3-of-7 at the foul line while the Hornets were 1-of-5.
Community plays at Shelbyville Saturday night. Game time is 7:30 p.m.
