United Way of BedfordCounty’s board of director wants to thank everyone who was part of the annual Mardi Gras Crawfish and Shrimp Boil. While we would have liked to have seen a larger crowd in attendance those who did attend opened their wallets to bidon a great selection of silent and live auction items helping to provided much needed funding for our partners and projects. There are many moving parts to such an event and there are many people to thank as well.

Tyler Gill returned to oversee the preparation of the crawfish, shrimp and the fixings. It is not an understatement to say that without Tyler this event could not happen. His cooking always elicits rave reviews from those in attendance. A special feature this year was Cajun chicken alfredo prepared by Glass Hollow Table and Tavern owners Ashley and Andrew House. Ashley is a United Way board member as well and we thank her especially for her support. The verdict -delicious.

In my absence due to health issues Maleah Claxton, chairperson of the United Way board of directors, oversaw the evening. I often have wondered over the past four years what I would have done without Maleah’s willingness to help. Dawn Hobbs made sure the tables at the Blue Ribbon Circle were decorated. As a board member and former executive director of United Way I have depended on Dawn’s advice and guidance so much that I need a T-shirt with WWDD on it for “What Would Dawn Do”?

Many board members were part of making sure the festivities went well –Misty Bennett, Kristin Brown, Tammie Mills, Marilyn Ewing, John Carney, Misty Bennett, Ivan Jones, Angi Huffman, Kayla Hilliard, Linda Brown, Corrine Harris and Shay Maupin. Cherokee Distributing provided beer and signage. Vanderbilt Bedford Hospital donated water. Tyson Foods contributed the chicken. Thanks to all of you.
