Mary Jo Gibson Cooke, 88, of Bell Buckle, passed away on Saturday, April 17, 2021 at Viviant Healthcare of Shelbyville. Per her wishes, she will be cremated with no public services.

Mary Jo was born on Saturday, August 13, 1932 in Bell Buckle to parents Cecil R. Gibson, Sr., and Mary Lee Troxler Gibson.

She graduated from Bell Buckle High School and Peabody College in Nashville, Tennessee earning both bachelor's and master's degrees in physical education. She taught in New York, Texas and California while traveling with her husband, Major Charles A. Cooke, who was serving in the United States Air Force.

Upon returning to Bedford County, Mary Jo operated Gifts, Crafts and Flowers in Bell Buckle for a number of years.

She was preceded in death by her parents, brother, James A. Gibson, and sister, Martha Ann Gibson McGowan.

She is survived by her loving husband of 65 years, retired Major Charles A. Cooke, brother, Cecil R. Gibson, Jr., niece, nephews, great nieces and great nephews.
